What's your favorite bourbon/whiskey and why?

Just curious as to which bourbon/whiskey you guys drink. I'm a Woodford Reserve Fan with its hints of caramel and oak..makes for a nice drink on the rocks or mixed.

simplepeddler 02-03-2011 10:47 PM

I have really enjoyed the small batch stuff.
Baker's, Booker's, and Basil Hayden's.

Just really smooth and easy on me the morning after.
But those days are getting less and less. Just too old to feel bad.

Oh, and I never mix........it's either neat or on da rocks for me

Hopedale Hustler 02-03-2011 10:51 PM

Johnny Walker, Knob Creek, and always my favorite as most will agree good ole Jack D

ScubaLatt 02-03-2011 10:54 PM

Love to put my feet in the "Creek" while sitting by a campfire at the Deer Ranch. I vote Knob Creek...

Some friends and I buy Jack single barrel every year.......by the barrel.......You can go online and sign up. Then you have to go to the distillery and pick it up......that's the best!!! When your name is on it, it makes a difference

Dink 02-04-2011 12:06 AM

We started ordering 10 years ago and picked up our first barrel last year

Crown and water with a little bit of 7 to add some taste

southern151 02-04-2011 08:25 AM

Once upon a time, I would have said Crown Special Reserve but, these days, for me, the best bourbon or whiskey is the stuff that doesn't leave the bottle. I just can't get into it anymore. Ocassionally, I still drink beer but, that's really thinned out lately too.

Did try a taste of Grey Goose with a dash of 7up and must say, it tasted really good! That's why I just settled for a taste!

blackmamba 02-04-2011 09:09 AM

Dink.....you have to post a pic of that Customized barrel ....that's sounds awesome! And what does it run for one ~500+? And it took 10 years of waiting to recieve one? This is definitely something that interest me. (When your done......refil with bottles from the store....stab the wooden cork in and age it a lil longer!:D)

Big Kahunaz 02-04-2011 11:50 AM

Has anyone ever tried Pappy Van Winkle (Dark Bourbon) or George T Stagg - aged 15 yrs (140+ proof but considered the grandaddy of bourbons)

I have never understood this. Alcohol is alcohol. Drunk is drunk. One whiskey is all good but bourbon causes you to fight? It makes no sense.

Tequila makes you really stupid. I can vouch for that...

If one bourbon tastes a lot better, you drink a lot more.
The more you drink, the stupider you get....
That's how.

I love Crown and 7. But if I am pulling a late night, I drink Crown and Vault energy drink.

Finfeatherfur 02-04-2011 01:26 PM

The wife and I drink Jim Beam & Diet Cokes by the 1/2 gallon like some people go through milk. Cheap, smooth, and will take the edge off of a bad day quick. Now, if it's a "customer" trip, then I like Knobb Creek. I think Knobb Creek is overpriced, but it is smooth and I can also sip it on the rocks.
