Do not buy a whirlpool. There nothing but junk. Is it gas or electric.
|
It might just be an element out. Most water heaters have two heating elements, the bottom one does most of the work and goes out quicker. If it's an element it would only be $10 to $15 to get a new one.
|
I gotta a fix for you - shower together or You shower first. HaHa!
Seriously, I bet that the lower heating element went out, it gives the same problem - short hot water supply. Problem is, it's sometimes easier to replace the tank than the element. Good luck. |

electric |

problem is... i dont know where this element is located... im sure i can get one from a hardware store....., just have no knowledge of how to replace it. |
drain tank first unless you can pull and replace real quick:smokin:, should be to plates on the side of the tank that you remove and the elements screw in. If you have a multimeter you can ohm out the element and check for continuity. If its open then its bad. oh and dont forget teflon tape.
|
If it's a 20 gallon, it is 120 volts and has just 1 element.
My dad just got rid of one in early Dec. It had a lot of sediment in the bottom. After I changed it out and took it outside, it was 1/2 full of some clear silicone looking gunk. It may be the same with yours. If it is old and you are on a water well, there is no telling what it is full of. You may just be heating 5 or 10 gallons of water instead of 20. |
someone may chime in but couldnt you just line up the water and flush it? with a hose going outside of course to drain it that is
|
There is a plug on the top to flush it with.
Just have to remove the bottom inlet. The 20 gallon water heaters don't have a flush/drain valve like the bigger water heaters. |
|
If it's less than a 30 gal it's not big enough for 2 people especially with a woman taking a shower!!!!!

Have not read the exact size of the current water heater. Before buying a new one make sure of the exact size you currently have. If the current water heater has been installed 10+ years you would probably do better to replace it. Are you renting or do you own the place where you live? If renting, then contact the owner to repair/replace the water heater. If you own the place, then consider upgrading to a larger capacity water heater for the future. |
what about a tankless water heater... their a little cheaper... good reviews...
|
Are you prepared to pay the higher cost of a tankless? They are much more expensive than a conventional.
|
Dude, tankless rocks!!! It costs to set up, but it is well worth it in my book!

not renting, my grandfather owns the trailer, and we live there 'rent free' as long as we 'fix it up'...... |
ok, clip that....... i'll probably go with one a little bigger than the current one
|
Just saw "electric" not sure how well electric tankless works, especially with 110......mine is gas
|
they have a "hot water head" that is a shower head, and plugs into a wall.... gives you hot water when u push a button.... cheap like ~$40..... dont wanna get electrocuted...

Dink...electric tankless work fine. You just have to match your home's hot water demand with the proper size tankless system. There are a variety of power supply set ups for electric tankless example 110V, 120V, 208V, 220V, 240V, and 277V. Just depends on your application.

anything else i miss ?? |
If you can afford it and it will fit i would go w/ no less than a 40 gal if you can get one that is 110 volts.

20 gal. water heaters are normally 120 volt.
30 and 40 gal. water heaters are normally 240 volt. If you upgrade, you may have to change out the breaker and wire. 40 gal. will run you close to $300. Natural gas tankless water heater for just 1 bathroom will cost close to $700, without installation. I just installed one in my parents house. |
why would you heat hot water? just saying

Maybe something to think about......?????
If upgrading to a larger hot water heater that requires 220 volts, is not a good option......maybe putting in a second smaller [20 gallon] tank could be done. Like others suggested......check to be sure your tank is clean......and not filled up "sludge". |
If you have to add another water heater, you may have to run another wire anyway.
Most trailers come with 30 gal. water heaters. Jordan, check the breaker and see if it is a double breaker or a single breaker. If double, you have a 240 volt water heater. If single breaker, you have a 120 volt water heater. |
Ray, its a single breaker.... there is a "spigot" at the bottom..... can i drain this ??? Can i hook up a water hose and run it outside and drain the tank ??? I would really like to take a hot shower tonight..

notice i said possibly.... at least you can afford a new water heater... :pissed: |
I'm going back with my original advice, shower together. That way you might get a little hot water before it goes to lukewarm. After your shower tonight, if it's not raining, kill the breaker and drain some water from the bottom of the tank and see if you get a bunch of sludge. That could fix your problem, but it has never worked for me. If you have a 30 gallon tank, carefully disconnect the bottom element and see if it is good (You are going to need a multimeter to check its resistance). It might not be that big of a deal to change it. Definitely the cheapest option. Little projects like that sometimes become all day projects. I like going to the repair parts store with the broken part in my hand and all the make, model, and serial number information that I can find. Good luck my friend, keep us posted.

If u go gas I recommend a tankless other wise the electric ones take like 4 breakers to work
