Delcambre Canal

Went to mouth of Avery in Vermillion Bay on Tuesday. Caught 1 Sand Trout on Chart. Beetle. Not much action. Looks like bay was too fresh maybe. My wife and I have been going to Delcambre right across from the launch and everyone is catching nice Channel cats on shrimp with the tide moving in or out.

When you get to the mouth of the avery, hang a right,go down to the second point and fish the bank, been catching my limit every day last week, even with the wind.

That point to the right of the avery canal is a good spot. There is also a big pond in the marsh not far north of that area that is also good. Im going to try marsh island tomorrow, should be good with a falling tide all morning.

Big Flounder 09-10-2010 08:31 PM

Just started working there this week. Had to bring my camper this week but when I go back Sunday I'm bringing my boat and I can't wait to learn that place! Anyone fish there at night?

Jeff (wtretrievers) is working there also. Where is your camper at?

Big Flounder 09-10-2010 08:50 PM

yeah I know Jeff. I'm at a campground about 4 miles back toward New Iberia on 14. I'm there for a month then I'm moving over to Jeff's campground. This place sucks that I'm at they want to charge me for parking my boat there. First campground I've ever been charged at.

longsidelandry 09-10-2010 08:53 PM

Aw man, you at the one on the south side of 14 on the curve??

Big Flounder 09-10-2010 08:57 PM

Right next to a green house in the east bound side. There is only 6 campers in there now. Jeff is in the damn woods. I should have went there from the get go.

longsidelandry 09-10-2010 09:02 PM

Yea that's a pretty crappy place that you're at.

Big Flounder 09-10-2010 09:12 PM

You in that area too?

longsidelandry 09-10-2010 09:18 PM

I live in Delcambre

Big Flounder 09-10-2010 09:25 PM

OK you must be the one Jeff was telling me about today. That fool get it made riding around all day on a golf cart taking pics of me on a scaffold. Man I have been talking to the locals that work there and none of them really even fish. Don't understand that. Got to do some riding around next week so I can learn my way around there in the day light so I can start fishing nights since we are working 12 hours a day.

longsidelandry 09-10-2010 09:29 PM

My dad will be working there also starting in 2 weeks. He worked there for a little over 20 years before they laid him off. He just got laid off from a company at the port in New Iberia 2 weeks ago and Shaw will hire him back.

Big Flounder 09-10-2010 09:35 PM

That's cool. I'm sure I'll see him around. I'm supposed to be there till Feb. or March. It's a small facility.

boggycreek 09-10-2010 11:45 PM

I live about 2 miles from where your camper is at,you are welcome to park your boat at my place. My dad also works at shaw,in the tool room. The specks should be firing up anytime now,i am offshore right now,but would be glad to show you around.

I see people fishing at the bridge, they park & walk down the RR tracks.

You can fish from the bottom of the RR tracks on the south side of the bridge on either side of the canal, you can fish the north side of the bridge on either side of the canal or you can walk the "boardwalk" and fish off the warfs where all the sinking shrimp boats are tied up at.

I'm always down for a fishing trip! I don't know many spots since I've only been saltwater fishing a few years but I'll gladly tag along.

Creole Fisherman 09-21-2010 08:56 PM

I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure that everything on Bayou Petit Anse is private property.
