I've had one for several years now, except mine is the 250. Put some serious hours on it between working in Venice & Hackberry, fish 3-5 days a week, No complaints from Me. Easiest cranking motor I've ever touched, hit the key & it's running. I here people talking trash about them, but none of them seem to be owners. I love mine.

That is exactly right. I have a 90 and love it. I was in Henderson last week and must have got some duckweed around the water intake and it started running hot, the alarm went off and I shut it down for a minute and let it cool off and it is back to cranking on the first turn again. It gets out the hole quickly too.

Look up Delta Marine in Port Sulphor, ask for Byron (owner) he sells Yamaha & Etecs, he'll shoot ya straight.

this is the boat im looking at http://www.baycraftinc.com/custompag...nel180explorer

comes with a 60 but is rated for a 75. I plan on going with a 75. just not sure of the etec. I have a old 40hp evinrude that runs like a champ right now. never owned a yamaha or any 4 stroke motors. ive been reading a lot of good things and bad things. I guess its like that for any outboard.

blackmamba 08-04-2010 01:06 PM

Damn them boats are sweet.. I want the 185 explorer

Dink 08-04-2010 01:30 PM

I saw a video where the etec pulls a Yamaha backwards so bad it swamped then flipped the boat.......

my buddies boat has two 250 etecs. He has a lot of trouble with the starboard one and no trouble with the other. Seems like some kind of computer thing going wrong with that broken one tho. He's brought it to the shop multiple times for the same thing.

Shellman on here has one on a 19 ft. Hydrosport bay boat. PM him.

good looking little flats rig!

also check out the maverick 17 HPX with yamaha power, I think the beavertails are rigged with ETECs also.

I had a 250etec for a while and it stayed in the shop more than in the water. Always had problems with it but they do perform good. Finally got rid of it and got a 250 susuki.

bumping this old thread....very curious about the e-tec. Seem to be hearing more and more about them lately. Any more personal reviews??

Dink 04-11-2011 09:00 AM

I talk to owners pretty often......its 50/50......one will say its the best motor he's ever had, next Guy will say its always in the shop.......

Purple Back 04-11-2011 09:07 AM

My buddy's E-Tec is not even a year old now and its been to the shop 3 times.
The first time they said the factory put the wrong size plugs.
The second and third time were the same problem, motor will not produce any power whatsoever. The shop has yet to figure out the source of the problem.

Side Note: Lake Area is the only local dealer, and they are inexperienced when it comes to this brand.

Father in law has one and its awesome. No trouble with it.

MattW 04-11-2011 09:56 AM

I have a 115 etec that is 3 years old. I have never had an issue with it. Cranks on the first touch of the key every time even when it is 20 degrees outside. It is super quiet and produces plenty of power.

bsoileau 04-11-2011 09:59 AM

Thats the size on his boat. I was very surprised when it was freezing outside on how quick it cranked.

MattW 04-11-2011 10:04 AM

It's on a 17 foot SeaChaser bay boat. I never hit the choke on it. Amazing motor, crappy boat. I use the bombardier oil with it.

shellman 04-11-2011 02:33 PM

I have a 2009 175 etec and like it , so far no problems ,has plenty torque ....

Reel Bender 04-11-2011 09:11 PM

Nice looking boats, I may have to check into them. Been looking at poling skiffs. Some of the ones similar to this I've been looking at are $40,000.00!!!!!!!!!
