When did you go to Mea's Beach? You must have got lost and ended up there?*****... You know when you leave the club, turn east to get home.
If it was for the meet and greet, there was three of us that showed up. Longcast, my brother and myself. A gallon of margrita's and a case of Naturals. Speaking of which, Jason, any help available with the PO-PO issue?:help:

Hit the beach a couple of weeks ago, only to find a 12-14 mph wind out of the south and dirty water. We did not even try fishing there that day.

Today the winds were very light [2 to 5 mph] all morning, but the water was only fair. Visability was 3" to 10" depending on the time of morning.

The fishing was slow [for me]. I caught 2 good Trout on topwater as the sun was coming up. Then only a few blowups over the next hour. As the sun came up, schools of bait started showing up and fish were really chasing the bait. But nothing would strike the topwater with all the "action" going on.

I switched to Sand eels and a few other baits and colors.....but never got any hits. SpecksNdaSURF [and 2 partners] showed up a little while after I had started fishing. They had caught ~ 7 Trout and maybe a Red] while I was trying to figure out how to catch another fish.

With the fish busting live bait.....I got the castnet. I caught a few finger mullet and more shad than 10 people could have used.

My first shad produced a dink trout....but this was a good start. Then in the next 45 minutes, I caught ~ 10 catfish. So I went back to throwing soft plastic and trying a few different baits....with no luck.

I talked with specksNda SURF again and he told me Opening Night was the only color he was having any luck catching fish on. He gave me one of his to try and said they were still catching a trout every now and then.

After many more cast..... sometimes into areas where fish were busting the bait, still no more trout. I finally caught a keeper Redfish behind the rocks. I picked up 2 more Reds in that same area, and my line broke on another fish....should have probably retied my jig head because I lost the bait that was given to me.

I tied on a similar bait and did catch 1 more Red.

Final total was 4 Reds and 2 trout. It was a fun day, but having so much action of bait and fish busting the surface......and not even getting a strike......will give me something to think about, until the next trip to Holly Beach.

Thanks for the report and pics! That reminds me I'm all out of opening night color plastics.

he wanted em on top tho! i wish norton made a nightreuse color

Ray 08-04-2010 08:44 PM

They caught on topwater for a short time, then it died.
They then swapped to Sand Eels and fished for a while
longer. Bite died around 8:30. No more fish after that.

I had tried something close to Opening Night fairly early, but tried other colors after no hits in 15-20 cast.

RAGINJROB 08-04-2010 10:23 PM

Thanks for the report Gerald and SpecnSurf...I am going in the morning for a short trip if anyone wants to join. Ill be in black tahoe. Will have report for tomorrow.

My uncle, a friend and I picked up 31 in block 20. It was HOTT AS HELL....All on plastics.....most caught on PINK Brown Lures.

adamsfence 08-05-2010 07:47 PM

good report mr gerald.......how close can you get to the beach in a boat. i have always wanted to head west from the jetties was just scared of running onto a beach

RAGINJROB 08-05-2010 08:12 PM

I went today and left at 8 with 4 trout. Was in the water around 6:30 and my first 2 cast trout on topwater. Then it died so I made a move and caught 2 more on topwater. That was all I threw this morning. I just wanted to check the water before work. The water was stained...but is holdin some fish. Lots of bait also...going Sat morning with my kayak.

Not sure how to answer your question. Almost all of the beach has a sandy bottom, so I guess you could come in as close as your boat would allow until you hit bottom.

I do not know if there are underwater objects. I see fishing boats running along the beach ~300+ yards out.

Those shrimp boats looked like they was pullin in some fat sacks?

Ray 08-05-2010 11:02 PM

Shrimpers have not been doing good out there.
Most of them draft 3 to 4 ft.

I can draff dat!!! :smokin:

CajunSteelsetter 08-06-2010 03:16 PM

Yeah i've been to the beach a couple times this summer, and the determining factor in catching fish it seems is just catching some good water out there with low winds.
