Boating education course now mandatory for greater number of young boaters in louisia
Beginning Thursday, July 1, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1984, will be required to successfully complete a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) boating education course to operate a motorboat over 10 horsepower in Louisiana. The state law previously required that anyone born after Jan. 1, 1988, had to complete a course. The 2009 Legislature approved the new age requirement with July 1, 2010 as the effective date.

There was a class on June 19th at the Lake Charles Sail and Power Squadron.
Now you have to take it online or at the LDWF. I will post up when the next one is at the LCSPS. If we get enough people on here to sign up, the LCSPS will make a date to fit your needs. It is usually $10, which includes meals. They give all the prep. info. that will be on the test, then take the test around 3:30 pm. The Coast Guard Aux. had a class also, but I don't see any of their info. around anymore. If you call Ship to Shore, Sheron might have more info. |
I took the hunter safety class way back when it was first started, about 1984.
It was on a cold day [~40 F] in an outside covered shelter with the wind blowing. Everyone wearing insulated clothing and jackets. After the first hour, everyone had to get up and run around to warm up. I have never been that cold hunting on a deer stand. |
One of my sisters teaches the hunters safety course.
