saltycajun rescue
omg fished grand isle friday with hellufied winds.found a guy out in the middle of the bay wearin a life jacket swingin a paddle.we stop n get him outta the water and he explains to us that his girlfriend and son are stranded on sum rocks.come ta find out,he bought his boat off the showroom floor thursday at 10 a.m. and put it in the water at 2 p.m. well he got lost and ran the sucker outta gas lookin fer his way back.they drifted since 5 p.m. when they hit the rocks at 3 a.m. then he took off in the water alone ta find help. we come around the islandanbd we find that bob had already located the boat and other two people and was callin in the coast guard.well he and his crew were saved by the coast guard and are livin proof that the coast guard kicks ***.just give all praise n glory ta god that these people were saved and not floatin out in the gulf.they launched their boat in myrtle grove and we estimated that they drifted over forty miles!!!! saltycajuns were respresentin in grand isle

Glad you and Bob were able to rescue them. |
Drifting boat
Why did he allow himself to drift that far??? Did he try throwing out the anchor, or fashioning some sort of drift sock with a bucket ???

Why did he leave the boat also? It is easier to spot a boat than to spot a person in the water. Glad these people are OK, but I think he needs some education on boating. Warren |

pretty sure it was the first time this guy has ever seen water |
New Boat

Speckdaddy, What kind of boat was it? |

Now for the rest of the story, Bet he didn't have GPS or VHF. Had no clue where he was or where he was going. Glad he and his family were rescued , BUT he never should have been out there in the first place. Another fool w/ enough $$$ to buy a boat ,But not enough sense to learn about using one.:pissed: |
well i know a feller that fished a tournament yesterday who had just bought a haynie boat not to long ago and on the way back to the landing ran out of gas and was stranded for a good while. i would never have thought it would happen to him because he lives and breaths on the water. *****

the boat is now sunk at a slip at sand dollar... i saw it today ill take a pic tomorrow and post it... the old man that sells bait said there was a hole in the bottom and they put a pump in it to keep it floating...but the guy was pissed and decided to go get drunk at the bar instead of taking care of the boat and it sank...

wow, nice going Jason, just not sure what to think about the guy and his boat.
|
dude aint kiddin, he was clueless. he wasnt worried bout that gal n her son at all.that boat was more important. it was an aluminum hull with a walk through glass console. i cant believe he spent 28000 on a boat with no gps or nothin.then he goes n jumps in the darn water ta look fer help. guys i was totally upset about the guys attitude but i was just gladf that they were all safe.
|
I think I could have found a cheaper way to dump my girlfriend than that.

def a bass fishing boat |
That's insane...
Glad all is ok and thank goodness you guys came along to a paddle waving fool...Now for some ?????
What new model boat doesn't come with built in gas tanks...launch at 14:00 and out of gas 3 hrs later???? Then drift 40 miles from Myrtle grove??? If these facts are true this guy was saved by the grace of God alone....and should never be allowed to own a boat ever again...what an idiot... Sorry if I have my facts wrong and calling this guy an idiot but geez...come on, by all means this guy should be dead because of his ignorance alone....glad his boat sunk so he can't endanger no one else's life...Hope he woke up with a big ole hang over with a phobia never to buy another boat. This accident should be a reminder to all of us in regard to carrying the proper safety gear. I would say first on the list is a good fire extinguisher. (Required by USCG) Also a good anchor (not just a cajun 'pole' anchor). If you go in open lakes or in the Gulf a good drift anchor (a wind sock looking contraption) What it allows you to do is keep the bow of your boat layed into prevailing wind or rough water(waves). A good VHF/Marine radio as there are dead zones where your cell phone may or may not work ( I prefer a hand held in case I have to bail-out and ditch the boat ie; fire or hole in hull). A GPS so you can give rescue personnel you location or co-ordinates. Of course life jackets because it doesn't matter how good of a swimmer you were in high school, swimming in cold water and 3' seas are a completely different matter. I keep flares and air horn in case a day 'event' turns into an all night event. There are of course many other supplies such as bottled water and bug spray that could lend help to your survival (Too many to list) but these are just the basic stuff I recommend to folks who are new to boating. Also remember the rule regarding your fuel. 1/3 tank toget to your destination, 1/3 to get you back and 1/3 strictly for emegency conditions. Those 3 folks were lucky and 'blessed'. Kudos to you guys that aided in the rescue and stay safe out there...

If he ran out of gas, how could he hit rocks hard enuff to bust the bottom?
When they brought her back to the landing, they should have pulled her up on the bank. |
