2013 Christmas Drive.

Ladies and, Gentlemen, it's that time of year again! It's the time when we humbly open our wallets for the sake of helping others in need during the Christmas season. This is a season for rejoice and, for most, it is. For some though, this is when disappointment sets in for those who, for whatever reason, can't provide for their families. That's where we step in!

For the past several years, with the help of so many people here, we have been largely successful in putting smiles on the faces of families in need! This isn't just about giving presents to kids. We've given, to each family we've helped, a FULL Christmas dinner, fuel cards, gift cards to clothing outlets, gift cards to shoe stores fishing equipment and, the list goes on. Most importantly, we've given a moment of peace to folks who may not have otherwise had it. I've been on several of the deliveries and, I will admit, I've never left with dry eyes.

We will be doing the format a little different this year, however. Previously, we've picked a family for the SW side and, one from the SE side of LA. Remarkably, last year, we wound up able to help a third family! This year, we will be simply helping as many as we can, regardless of geography. As I understand it, we already have one family located. If I remember correctly, she is a single mother with four kids who is fighting for her life with cancer. I want us to help this family!

If ANY member of SC knows of a family in need, please, let me know! Again, geography won't rule anyone out, nor will race, creed or, reason for need. Help us find a family need! Help us raise some money to help those families! If you have any questions, concerns or, nominations, feel free to contact me here, at my office or, on my cell!

Thank You,

Corey Fisher

Also, I will note that we will try to shut down the fund raising a little earlier this year than last. It's very tough to start shopping for a family on Dec. 20th!

I've rolled it around and, I feel that stopping the fund raising on December 14th is enough time to get what we need done.

My PayPal address is c_fisher79@yahoo.com. When you send a donation, please list your screen name in the memo because, we typically have a drawing for all the donors after it wraps up! In years past, there have been duck hunts, ammo and, fishing trips donated!

Tuesday bump.

Guys, we're running out of time! I appreciate all the support we've received already but, let's keep pushing!

As in most years, as we approach Thanksgiving, I try and study the Pilgrims a bit to help provide my children and myself with perspective. Modern Americans are often too quick to see ourselves as heroes without fully appreciating the immense sacrifices and personal challenge.

Much like the Pilgrims, the MathGeek family chooses not to celebrate Christmas. Our reasons are much the same: seeing no Biblical mandate for the event, we prefer to look at every day the same. Don't misunderstand me, I am a man of faith who (as the Pilgrims) believes that Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, bore my sins on the cross, and was raised from the dead. My wife and I simply choose not to celebrate the birth of our Lord on 25 December.

However, as I hope I would not harden my heart toward kindness to those in need on any other day, why would I harden my heart on 25 December? I'll work out the amount with my family and get Corey the money within the next week. I am grateful to Corey and the other SC members for putting this together. Compared with their heartfelt efforts, writing a check is the easy part.

Please pray about a gift and talk to your families. If MathGeek Scrooge can give to the 2013 Christmas Drive, you probably can too.

C'mon folks ,i know times are tough. But anything you can give will help.
You don't know how appreciative the recipients are. You don't have to give $100 .
What does it cost for a case of beer? Skip one and donate that.

Goooh 11-21-2013 07:38 PM

Do we have a family picked yet? How many folks are in the family? Where are they from? What are they into? Girls, boys, both? Older children, younger children?

This is useful info for those that may want to send gift cards for restaurants, retail, and the like, instead of sending cash.

eman 11-21-2013 08:28 PM

Most times we know number of adults and number of children . Unless someone on the site knows them personally we don't know what they are into or sizes. That is why we buy gift cards . This is a totally anonymous thing, other than the folks who deliver. No pics of the recipients or any names or locations.
