simplepeddler 11-03-2011 08:44 PM

headed down to Venice tomorrow for the youth hunt.
Mini peddler's birthday is on the 6th. We have hunted together for the last ten years for his birthday going back to when he made five.
Treasure everyone of them.

I understand that, I treasure every hunt I get to take my little brother on. I'm thankful to have friends that understand it's more then just killing but I have to admit he's not bad shot. I love to see that smile on his face, it tells me the tradition will continue with him.

Next week this time will be the Eve of West opener. I can smell it now......It is unbearable at this moment, but I can't imagine how restless I will be next Friday night. I might have to take Nyquil or an antihistamine to make myself go to bed.

Have had much more flight activity in the rice fields here in surrounding Lacassine area. I wish everyone a safe and plentiful season.

Lake Chuck Duck 11-04-2011 12:59 PM

To me ducks and geese are kinda like the difference between salt water and fresh water fishin. Anybody can go to big lake, throw some shrimp, and catch at least some kind of fish. So ducks are similar in that all you need is some water and some decoys and you will kill some kind of duck. Now geese, on the other hand, are like bass. You gotta work your but off to figure out weather pattern, decoy/bait presentation, calling/ bait working, alot more factors go into it. And most times they still decide they dont like it if you arent perfect. So personally I find killing geese to be more gratifying than ducks mainly because it requires more effort and skill, much like bass fishing.
Thats my analysis, any thoughts?

SaltERedneck 11-04-2011 01:00 PM

totally agree. I find your comparison similar... but either can be argued! I work harder for geese. I have thrown a robo duck in a cow pasture and killed ducks before.

not saying anything about your calling so you don't take it the wrong way. I agree totally with the comparison, but if you can call that's alot of it. I personally can call specks really well and have had them land within a foot of the blind not bragging at all. Also if you have more than one good caller with specks it's amazing what you can make them suckers do. Lcd really looking forward to swapping a hunt with you this season. I'm like you i love to hunt ducks don't get me wrong, but hunting specklebellies is where it's at hands down.

when the robo ducks first got popular a buddy and me where speck hunting in a plowed field no water at all not even in the ruts and killed 10 ducks.
