To me CCA Louisiana is just an organization that promotes and educates about recreational fishing. Have they ever claimed they will save the coast? Save Lake Calcasieu? Fight oyster dredging? Do they have a staff full of fisheries biologists and wetland scientists in Louisiana?

No

Is there any organization in Louisiana that claims they will save the coast? Save Lake Calcasieu? Fight oyster dredging? Have a staff full of fisheries biologists and wetland scientists to do this?

No

I joined the GCCA when it first came into existence. I attended meetings on a regular basis and enjoyed trying to help come up with ideas to keep our fisheries viable. The meetings were always pleasant and the group of individuals ranged from wealthy doctors to school teachers. When the organization changed to CCA our group disbanded in so far as our involvement with them. One of the main reasons for our discontent was that all of the dues we paid were being sent out of state and there seemed to be very little regard being paid to local input or concerns. I will never be a member of CCA again as long as it is structured as it is now. I do share everyones concern over the future of our coast, I still fish regularly and I hope
that some of the projects being worked on or considered will help curb coastal erosion. In closing let me say I will never enter the S.T.A.R. Tournament.

In my opinion, Duckbutter is exactly right in 1 regard.

These non-profit organizations that rely on government intervention in Baton Rouge can not be ran by working class volunteers like you and me. They have to be ran by serious people that are willing to spend time and money in Political Action Committees and lots of time in Baton Rouge. Most of these people can and do make ALOT more money than CCA pays them in their businesses. He is also right in who is AVAILABLE to do this kind of work for CCA. Everyday Joe Schmoe can't do this type of thing because we have jobs.

"W" I think you are a pretty well thought out guy and I always value your opinion good or bad. However, I think you are missing an Elephant in the room on this one...

You have said numerous times "What has CCA done for Lake Calcasieu?"

This is what I think they have done: CCA and the STAR tournament have made you (and a lot of others) the guide you are today. Without that tournament for the last 20 years, saltwater fishing wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is today. The popularity and exposure are the reason our lake can sustain so many guides. You even stated in a previous post that you were on the CCA Board at one time. You probably realized at some point that you didn't support them anymore but by then you were ALL IN with the fishing fever.

For the record, I do not support CCA any longer and have not entered the STAR tournament in the last 2 years. I am a realist and try to look at all angles on any situation. I see both sides of this issue... I choose to not participate.

Very well said. You are correct about the star tournament making saltwater fishing so popular. I've fished the lake and estuaries close to 40 years now. The amount of boats on the water any given day is crazy. In that respect, I wish the star never was. Too many unskilled boaters on the water now.

CCA has to many employees and you see that douche Rad Transcher riding around in a new you could win this truck every year so the buy him one to advertise star. They just waste money. Go to a banquet and they have 20 CCA employees that set up and do everything total waste of money. Du and delta or qdma have one employee and the volenteers. I would sure hate to catch a tagged redfish and miss out on a stripped down nautical star is my only delima.

DU and Delta only have one employee? Really? Could have fooled me.

fishwater 05-19-2015 11:52 AM

They don't have 8 to 10 at every banquet setting up for them no. They have a regional director there usually.

You think all those people setting up the banquets are actually paid by CCA:shaking:They are predominantly volunteers. And the DU and Delta comment :rotfl: Go look at the payroll of Ducks Unlimited especially the CEO and get back with us on that

And Rad has one of the best jobs in the world. I am a little jealous also. Need to educate before you hate.
