you're absolutley right, and i didn't mean any disrepect to anyone. This is a sad story and prayers sent to his family and freinds for the loss.

I find it strange that he would be trying to take a shotgun out of the truck. I have never been approached by a warden in the woods, but do they typically carry shotguns?

It is a sad story no matter what led up to the officer being shot.

The incident pretty sad and prayers for the family.

As far as DWLF my friends grandfather was the 1st secretary or back in those days person over the department. He was instrumental in help developing the Baton Rouge Sportsman league also. He fought to start fishing and hunting license fees with the idea the money would be used to build boat launches, by land for public hunting, and grow the department to serve the public better. In his day the DWLF also was a very rich department with mineral resource revenue. Under governor long he was basically blackballed out of politics due to he refused let Govenor Long take mineral and license fees from DWLF and put it in general fund. It is sad that even back then the govenors stole money from a depatment that could have grew our outdoor resources to make this state a true sportsman paradise.

From the start most blamed some outlaw for doing this. Just remember most of us have in some way or other broken a law in our lifetime of hunting or fishing so most every one on here, could be called an outlaw. Why blame some one before the truth comes out?
Sorry for the family, but it isn't always some one else involved.

Very true, we all may have kept a fish that was questionable or whatever the case maybe. With that being said I think we would rather take the consequences of our decision like a man or woman than take the life of another human being.

Boo, shotgun with #1 buck is standard night hunting setup.Seriously doubt this was a suicide, just like I doubt an 18 veteran would pull a shotgun out by the barrel.

not necessarily. body could have immediately went into shock causing him to pass out and bleed to death over the next few hours bc he was unconscious.

not saying that it happened that way... but it is possible

im sure forensic evidence (blood splatter, angle of entry wounds, gun powder residue, etc) have suggested otherwise. he would have powder on his hands if he did indeed grab the gun by the barrel. It would also be all over his body.

sounds like the only other possible scenario is that he had the "outlaw" IN the vehicle with him.. which seems highly doubtful at this point
