That plants out going water is tested by them weekly. It's cleaner than any water in the vermillion!

I agree fishing is my hobby I eat fish now and then but give majority of them away, usually to poor guys sitting at launch hoping a lonely catfish will bite, they're usually more than happy to take my bounty.

i talked to one of the engineers on the "dredging project" we have going.... he said all they do is basically agitate the mud on the bottom and blow it out of the way. he said its really soft silt so they can do that. id imagine it brings back everything that was ever laid down on the bottom.

One of my grandpaw's friends that is a old school 85 year old coonazz eats fish almost every day. He fishes the lower vermillion river and intracoastal city area. He used to fish commercially but gave it up. He is still alive to this day with no major heath problems. Just a little FYI,if you eat catfish at a restaurant in the lafayette area the majority comes from the vermillion. I know the people that run hoop nets in the river.

I eat a ton of cats from the Verm.
I shy away from any over 8 lbs. I have be populating neighbor hood Ponds with 10 - 30 lb blues.

My cousin's husband caught fish in the Vermilion and Butte Larose Canal and brought them to have tested at the same time. Guess which one was better. The one that's fished more heavily. That's right Butte Larose, the one where people go to fill the cooler and have a big cookout.

People eat fish like there is no tomorrow from the venice area. That is the toilet bowl for most of the US.

I have been curious about the calcasieu estuary since moving to the LC area. I can't help but think about the water quality when fishing the prien area, since the backdrop is all refineries. I did quite a bit of internet research to find out just how safe the fish were to eat from the Calc estuary, and in particular the Prien area. I was disappointed at the lack of data and studies out there. As mentioned in some previous posts, Bayou D'Inde seems to be a hot bed, so I dont fish it. I did come across one study that compared LC residents (who ate fish on a reg basis from lake calc) to residents of Lafayette (who ate fish from Verm bay on a reg basis) and compared different toxin levels in the blood (If I remember correctly is was mainly dioxins that they measured). Residents from Lafayette had a slightly elevated level compared to LC residents, which kind of took me by surprise. Anyway, I fish Prien all the time and eat the fish on a regular basis. Figure cant be any worse than my other bad habits!

There was some stuff years ago where they were going to dredge Bayou Dind'e and the PPG outfow. It was determined that it was better left alone due to the contaminants in the mud.

Come on now, how about the one that doesn't run through a city of 200k people... Cool story though

I had read a DEQ report where they basically are going to put an articulated block mat down and then pour a concrete pad over the sediment in upper bayou d'inde to contain it. They said there was no other way to deal with it without stirring it all up and making it worse. I don't know when they are supposed to start, but I know that a few of the plants are paying for it.
