ill have to go give it a try one day soon, is the water clear? and how easy is it to run your boat?

BassYakR 03-10-2014 02:15 PM

Lake time I fished there was probably 3 years ago and the water was pretty dirty. Hopefully that has changed.

The water is always stained and it is slam full of stumps.... Good thing is that it's a small lake and you can idle from spot to spot.

Ok cool sounds like there's a lot of quality cover, ppl don't talk about the lake much but have ya ever heard of ppl catching or caught good numbers of bass or good size? And is it even really worth me traveling over there ? I love a good challenge, but if the fishery is infertile I'm not waisting ma time and money!

Yes it is slammed full of stumps.. And I've never heard of many good reports coming from there.. Maybe just me though

PBJ 03-11-2014 01:11 PM

I never really hear of anyone catching bass there. Seems like there should be bass there with as little pressure that's put on them. Last year during the spring I ran some trotlines and normally saw 1 or 2 other boats at the launch. It's loaded with catfish and white perch though.

sledgehammer 03-11-2014 02:17 PM

ive always hear good things about the white perch fishin but never anything on the bass i might try it anyway, who know maybe bc the lack of pressure it might be awsome for me.. or it could just suck lol

They drained it and it killed a bunch of the grass off. It is listed as a number 1 priority for stocking the Florida strain bass. The bass are healthy and not fished for very hard - lots of structure - cane stands, cypress knees, ditches, flats, man-made structure, and it's holding the fish. Not big boat friendly, haven't seen but a couple boat lanes, seems the one that runs the length is well marked. I fish it with a yak - so much easier that way and I can get to the bass that most boats can't.

Yeah I read where the Florida bass are supposed to get put in around apr-may.. Wonder how long it takes them to get decent size?
And yes you can catch some catfish out of there, I've seen some bigs ones brought out too

This year they are stocking larger fry - this is to up the survival rate and increase the growth rate. Vernon lake allegedly experienced a substantial 10 month growth rate when they stocked it with smaller fry. Will have more reports as the days get a little longer and I can get out after work.

I always fished there during duck season and did ok with bass. My podna has a camp on the lake and his dad does excellent for post spawn. Jerk baits and such.
