Did see on 2foolfishing that a Texas Guide bought land in anglers bay , so I guess he can't catch fish In Texas so he has to come potlick here ... |

Sabine and Calcasieu Lake in my opinion are both equal lakes on quality and quanity trout. The big difference is Calcasiue has way more oyster reefs than Sabine. Also when you compare the number of guides on Sabine to 5 fulltime 10 part time. This is just a guess stimate on Cal 50-60 guide boats. Lot less pressured lake. Believe me as a guide we have big ones too and are catching them. Internet, text messages, cell phones, and technology have changed the secrets fishermen use to keep. Nothing is a secret anymore. Believe me im preparing for the pot licker invasion on Sabine. The trend has donw started from the East to the West even guides like "W" said cant catch em on there on water. But there's plenty of fish to be caught in both lakes for everyone. I enjoy more now taking my kids fishing than guiding. Thats what fishing should be all about. Capt. Robby Trahan Sabine Lake

Why is it that Calc is able to sustain so many guides vs Sabine? Quantity and quality could be one, it can't be because lake Charles is a destination city for tourists. Fisherman all over talk about going to big lake, I've never talked to someone who said they were itching to go to Sabine. I'm not knocking Sabine at all, but IMO quantity and quality are not the same. If they were you would have way more people going. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Location is key for Calcasieu near Casinos and is a tourist attraction. Heck Hackberry is on the water eith excellent acess to the lake where as Sabine is different. Lot more articles have definitley been done on Cal than Sabine. We choose to shhhhh! alot more. No live shrimp needed!! Sabine can definitley support more guides. There is no fishing lodges left on Sabine. When former Point Pleasant was ran in Johnson Bayou we ran 7-8 boats 7 days a week. Sabine is a good lake and you should come fish it. Results from a trout tourn last week proved it. It took 15lb strongers with 3 trout to make top 5 in tourn. 17.65 won the tourn. 5lb. avg in my opinion is an awesome tourn. Triangletailchasers.com. Check the results and that guy with ****ie is Albert Bates with the big trout. Heck of a big trout fishermen.

Big Lake has an infinitely better infrastructure. |
Ive lived in Lake Charles my entire life and have always been a fisherman. I have never in my life fished Sabine Lake. Even though we are talking about a 20 minute ride there, never been. It wasnt until I joined this site that the thought of even fishing there and catching trout crossed my mind. Its just not something that is talked about a whole lot around here.

I think most just want to see these 9lbers he speaks of.
|
I'm sure Sabine is awesome and as soon as the new frontier hits the drive way (prolly early fall) I will find out.

100% and you do not have the politics crying about making Sabine a Trophy Lake, like we did here on Big Lake. What I find funny is the ones who try to keep hush hush about Big Trout always appear in Magazines articles about BIG TROUT ON BIG LAKE.. |
Its all about boat access and lodging. One launch on LA side and no Hotels closer than Port author....
And It seems to me that unlike BL Sabine doesnt have near the amount of locals fishing it. |
I personally watched d i c k i e catch and release a trout in the 8lb range early feb...and no he did not take a picture of it. It seemed very routine for the man as if it were not a very rare occurrence.

Thanks for report ! Used to launch @ deep bayou when I would fish for P.P. . Great launch is its still operating ..
