I hunted gators on Black Bayou back in the 90's. It was fresh, people caught Bass and Bream in it.
Both lakes on each side of it were salty. Go figger.
Same with Deep Bayou behind JB. We caught Garfish on jugs, but the farther in the bayou we got, the more Freshwater Catfish we caught.

I recall fishing on a dock a Prien Lake nearly every week back in the mid 1970s. We usually caught puppy drum, sheepshead, and the occasional redfish. But once in a while . . . surprise, bluegill.

My dad still tells stories about when him and my grandfather used to rent an aluminum boat and paddle out into Black Lake and catch a boat load of white perch.

Of course this was before the oil field canals.
