nice trout W heading off-shore in da morning

Jordan didn't do so good. We had 6 Reds and 3 Specks, then the weather hit. We couldn't catch crap after the rain.
We did a lot of running after the rain stopped. We found garfish heaven just to the West of Lambert Bayou weirs where the sheet pilings are located. That little bay was full of gar.
We hit the channel at several places after the rain. Nothing anywhere. But we persisted. I don't know why, but we did.

Nice fish man. Im still working on catching one that big. If you dont mind me asking, how do you fish that sand eel? Ive tried a couple of ways but nothing feels right.

geauxtigers 08-28-2009 08:14 PM

Nice fish...... Congards

Gerald 08-28-2009 08:20 PM

Most often the sand eel is work with a slow bounce off the bottom or to suppend the bait.

If that does not work.......start varing how you work the rod tip. Try picking up faster or pull the rod up higher and let the bait fall.

Sometimes a quicker faster retrieve is what the trout want.

Using a 1/8 oz jig head or 1/4 oz is usually best. Maybe 3/8 oz on windy days or to let the bait fall faster to get under the lady fish.

Any particular kind of Jighead? I noticed W had a round one. I have never seen those.

W that is one FAT fish......Good one. Myself, uncle and a buddy ran out of fresh water city this morning and picked up 55 trout mostly on Tsunami Swim baits....Purple Haze color. The rain did not hit us until 12:30/1:00. Gulf was very calm until the rain came.
