i could be wrong but if you bought the boat from a dealer i think there is like a 40 day lemon law or something. you should contact your lawyer and make sure and do it before you run out of time. kind of strange you buy a used boat and it blows on you the second trip. my guess is something was wrong with it before. i could be wrong and you just have really bad luck. any way sorry to hear that. what cylinder was it?

Dude I hear ya that sucks....That is the one reason why I NEVER buy nothing used...boat, car, 4-wheeler. Hard to believe that it was just bad luck. Buy the boat and put what not even 5 hours and this happens. You would think they would go thru the boat/motor before they would sell it???? But you never know. Hope it works out. Sad part is if you get a lawyer it will likely cost you more for the lawyer then the repairs.

I hope that you can beat them into a corner! I would start advertising their name on EVERY site you can find. When they ask you to stop, tell them you will when they right what they wronged. You may be surprised at how quick they respond. I'd put an ad in their local paper in the boat section of the classifieds. Run them under the bus! Remember, it's not slander if it's a fact.:pissed::pissed::pissed:

Hey tim we have a laptop at work that we can plug into the main computer on the engine to show how many hours it really has.......

all star rod 08-12-2009 09:12 PM

If it is an older engine I do not think you can do that. I have a buddy of mine that has a carb yamaha 150 that is like 8 or 9 years old and you cannot do that with his motor from what he has told me.....maybe he is wrong or maybe it is just certain motors??

Montauk17 08-12-2009 09:14 PM

Your right, depends on the year.....what year is it tim?

Dink 08-12-2009 09:36 PM

Dink 08-12-2009 10:01 PM

had to be an oil issue that burnt it up

Montauk17 08-13-2009 01:13 PM

more than likeley.....make sure they disconnect the oil pump gear and pre mix from now on

Ray 08-13-2009 01:32 PM

I did that on a 200 Merc. after the oil pump went out while I was 34 miles offshore.
Sent to a friends dad who worked for Gene's, and he took the oil injection system
off the engine and I just mixed the oil in the gas tank. Made me feel a lot more
better knowing that won't happen again.

jpeff31787 08-13-2009 01:34 PM

dink if your ever off during the week or whenever i don't have anyone to go with I'd like to get a small crew from here on the water. We can go in my boat unless someone else has a bigger boat. We only have a 19fter so...

I'm thinking about taking a day off of work soon one day to go

eman 08-13-2009 03:28 PM

ouch

Just got off the phone w/ tim and yes he did have an oil problem.
Previous owner has disconected the oil pump hose but had left the tank and gear on the motor. had been mixing his fuel.
He didn;'t tell the broker and the broker who said they had checked the boat and motor out . (NOT) didn't inform tim that it was now a premix.
So he made a test run and 1.5 trips on no oil.
I think the broker should be partly responsible since they didn't inform tim that the oil pump had been disconected.

LaAngler 08-13-2009 03:32 PM

i wonder if it was smoking at all

chances are it had oil at the dealer and then after it was topped off it burnt up

SULPHITE 08-13-2009 04:18 PM

I bet she was hauling...running lean...

Montauk17 08-13-2009 07:49 PM

I bet the previous owner had some gas in the boat that was already premixed.....if it was straight gas theres no way you would have made it that far. That bull**** that they failed to metion it was dissconnected :(
