Montauk,

The 225 XS I am looking at is a 2009. Did that year have problems with coils? Would the coil be covered under the warranty?

All optimax's had issues with coils going out. They are covered under warranty even if your warranty is up in most cases. If one goes out you will not be dead in the water. You will loose power and drop 500rpm's off your normal WOT rpm.
