Had 2 stihls last year. I bought one brand new and the second one I got because I returned the first one. Ended up returning the second one for the same reason, it wouldn't idle or go full throttle. They said something was wrong with the carbarator and kept for a month cause the part was on back order. I had go back and request my money back and went to cutters and bought me a shindaiwa
and never had a problem since.

Yes they are still open. They also carry stihl.

I use to own a lawn business where I had 15 yards on average and mowed them every week to every 10 days. I used the same stihl weedeater with no problems at all from '97-2005...

I don't doubt there is lemons in every brand, but I had some time on that stihl and wouldn't buy anything else. Only reason I can see a homeowner having carb issues (on any weedeater brand) where I didn't, would be that I used that thing everyday multiple times a day where as a homeowner uses it once a week to once every 2 weeks and the carbs can tend to gum up due to cheap gas and thick oil mixtures.

I'm not doubting you one bit. That's why I bought the sthil in the first place. I never gave the carb a chance to gum up as neither one of them made it through the first cutting.

I wasn't trying to give you a hard time I was just making a general statement about them all and why I would go with the stihl. I'm biased because of my experience and what I have put one through. Like the ol' saying goes, "You pay for what you get"...

Sometimes it's hard to live by that saying but in some cases it will come back to haunt you.

But as far as a weedeater for a everyday homeowner there are many out there that will get the job done and last several years.

Sulphite do a consumer report on them, you do that on everything else you buy!

i bought an Echo from my the power shop in houma and it has been wonderful so far, best part is changing the string, all you do is cut you come pieces about 8 inches long, when they wear down you pull them out and insert another one in. Mine came with a 5 YEAR WARRANTY through the store. He also told me never to use gas with ethanol in it. This place also also sales Shindaiwa, i asked about them and the dealer told me once he sells the few he has left he's not selling them anymore, they sell a 1/3 of them compared to echos and have double the amount in the repair shop.

Go to BMC in Westlake and ask for Totsie .....She'll hook you up with an ECHO and you will never have a problem with it!!!

I got one of the cheap green Weed Eater brand from sears. Been using it for 5 or 6 years and I have never had one problem with it. I definately "got what I paid for".

That's where I got mine. Shindaiwa, none better.

Not at all, home depot only sells the bottom end of the line.

Another plus to the mom and pop is you can get it serviced there if the need arises. Home depot has to farm out the service so it will usually take longer.

stihl and echos are good, I own an echo, but used a stihl for 6 hours a day last summer.

hey sulphite you might should consider the 4 stroke so no mixing is not necessary. It would suck to have to come home from the camp or something just to mix fuel for your wife to use the weedwacker. Lord knows your not going to use it.

We have a red one, name worn off. It is starting to fall apart, but we bought it in 2000. We had issues with the auto string thingy, but went to the one that you insert the string into when it runs out. It is 2 stroke, but starts real easy and runs great.
It is going on it's 11th summer this year. I doubt I can find one as reliable, but we ain't getting rid of this one till it dies. Only thing we spend money on is string and gas/oil.
Just pump the lil priming bulb and crank. Still has the original spark plug and starter rope.

I've had a Stihl for about 8 yrs now.....no problems.
