yea...just like Yamaha who wants to sell you there oil......I had a 4 stroke Yammy and they told me you have to run our oil! Ha.... Went to my local guy who works on boats and he grab a quart of Castorl 30W and said here! This is your yammy high dollar oil. Same thing but 10th of the coast!

Im not getting this. If it's not about cost or saving a dollar then what is the argument? If premium plus will work in the opti? Yes it will work but not as good as the opti oil. Running opti will increase engine life and burn more efficient.

My question wasn't Mercury vs. Quicksilver it was the dfi vs. premium plus. I get my oil from the dealer but the dfi oil is $25 a gallon vs. $15 for the premium plus.

There is no difference and if you talk to Merc opti max owners you will find that Quicksliver is the same thing as Merc Oil

Use the $18 vs $25..... Your paying for the name not the product

Also I don't mind spending the extra money IF it is so beneficial but if there isn't that big of a difference. Cause that $10 a gallon difference will add up to a significant amount of money over the course of the year.

fishaholic go talk to a mechanic at merc dealer. not the salesman but a mechanic in the back who turns wrenches. see what he recommends. w's advise is what he thinks is best and not whats right. the guy montaulk on here is a merc mechanic and he has already stated his opinion.

they should of never gave you money.... 2stroke and 4stroke have nothing to do with each other. we're talking about 2 stroke oil that actually burns in a cylinder. not fourstroke that lubricates from within. you just dont understand which is why you think oil is oil in your 2stroke. google so you can learn.

Yea as stated he is a mechanic who services mercury engines and warranty work...Which they love you to buy Mec oil....

Go talk to a mechanic who does not do warranty work....Ask them! They will tell you the truth! If you want some #s to a few PM me.

Use merc Oil if you like to spend money

Use Quicksilver Premium plus(which Mercury promotes to use) if you want to save money with out having the cool black jug

Yes,quicksilver is made by mercury...it is NOT the same oil as the dfi mercury label. Use what you want but if you want to get the most out of your optimax,use the oil that was designed for it.

I read that the DFI oil only helps under large loads or long idling. A thinner full synthetic specially designed for direct injection's early issues.

Premium plus is a semi-synthetic blend, which may have better lubricity technically.

the mercury racing division says plus, standard mercs (pro) says opti oil

I have never seen one guide with a Merc Opt put Merc oil in there boat!!!

Most use what we all use..... Premium plus

I'm reasonably sure that the Premium oil is not going to be the culprit of any major internal damage to an engine. But, the problem I would have with using something other than what is specified or recommended by the manufacturer is........they can justify all sorts of problems just by saying that I didn't use the recommended oil. Just sayin'.
